Found a new drink

Hot,hotter and hottest is how I would personally describe the climate in South India so I keep looking out for refreshing drinks. On a Sunday afternoon I came across a drink called "Jigarthanda" sold by a famous restaurant chain in Chennai called "Murugan Idli".

This is a health drink originated from Madurai and it is quite rare to find a shop selling this in Chennai city.

Jigarthanda is a combination of two Hindi words "Jigar"(Heart) and Thanda("cold").I am not sure if it cools your heart but it is definitely supposed to be good for stomach and mouth ulcers.

Here is a short recipe on the drink which I learnt from the shop's supervisor.

Ingredients
1.Almond pisin. (I believe pisin is a milk like slimy liquid that flows from a Almond tree when you cut it.You should leave this liquid for few days after which you get this pisin.)

2.Nannari syrup - this is a herbal drink made from a herb that protects us from common summer ailments. I found its recipe here but it is easily available in ayurvedic stores.

3.Condensed milk with sugar(Boil milk till it becomes half of the quantity & turns pale yellow color) and rose syrup.

4.Some ice cubes

5.Ice cream - one scoop for one glass

The method is very simple.

Just 3 tablespoons of Almond pisin in a glass(here it is a plastic container),add 2 tablespoons of the Nannari syrup to this mixture. Now add condensed cooled milk to 3/4th of the glass and put some ice cubes. Finally place one scoop of ice cream on top of this mixture and serve.

The ingredients is in the same order as the shop keeper adds in the video.

Many thanks to him!

This is really refreshing on a hot summer day!
