Raji Krishnamoorthyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01835568891673801307noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8722723850803409826.post-77712382122199384582010-10-21T01:59:00.000-07:002010-10-22T12:34:47.553-07:00El Nacimiento de Krishna<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 250px; height: 220px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi30eouHQBymHhhLM_8HLWQHSdkmZqzUZ99qAgy_c7TIJZ2H742pbp0joqkD-tZqdHQl8m93YlTnMmeO6lidMlJ1PsWQ3NlqnGy-s8toX8MyrDQsqKjE2H40MD-koaA86l4mF0OsRzGKnmi/s320/King.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5530422629687028946" />

Kamsa mandó muchos demonios a matarlo. Finalmente, Krishna mató a Kamsa.

Necesitamos volver a buscarlo".

This is a health drink originated from Madurai and it is quite rare to find a shop selling this in Chennai city.

Jigarthanda is a combination of two Hindi words "Jigar"(Heart) and Thanda("cold").I am not sure if it cools your heart but it is definitely supposed to be good for stomach and mouth ulcers.

Here is a short recipe on the drink which I learnt from the shop's supervisor.

Ingredients
1.Almond pisin. (I believe pisin is a milk like slimy liquid that flows from a Almond tree when you cut it.You should leave this liquid for few days after which you get this pisin.)

2.Nannari syrup - this is a herbal drink made from a herb that protects us from common summer ailments. I found its recipe here but it is easily available in ayurvedic stores.

3.Condensed milk with sugar(Boil milk till it becomes half of the quantity & turns pale yellow color) and rose syrup.

4.Some ice cubes

5.Ice cream - one scoop for one glass

The method is very simple.

Just 3 tablespoons of Almond pisin in a glass(here it is a plastic container),add 2 tablespoons of the Nannari syrup to this mixture. Now add condensed cooled milk to 3/4th of the glass and put some ice cubes. Finally place one scoop of ice cream on top of this mixture and serve.

The ingredients is in the same order as the shop keeper adds in the video.

Many thanks to him!

It is easily available, cheap and readily disposable which makes it a suitable to be used in functions like marriages where you have large number of people. The used leaves are given to cattle which is again disposed without pollution. As the leaves are long they are cut into pieces large enough to serve food, usually the blunt end is cut in the shape of a tongue and the rest of the leaf is cut like mats.

Before serving the food the leaf is washed with water and cleaned. The thick rib that runs through the middle of the leaf partitiones the leaf into two halves - top and bottom.Usually the side dishes are placed on the top half and the main dish like rice is placed on the lower half.

Needless to say you cannot use spoons or knife but your fingers (only right hand) as the leaf is tender.
Hot food served on a banana leaf absorbs the nutritional value from the leaf and adds a different taste to the food.It is a belief that the leaf has the ability to take away untraceable amounts of toxins from the food we eat.Raji Krishnamoorthyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01835568891673801307noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8722723850803409826.post-32282715933690538402009-07-09T01:52:00.000-07:002009-07-19T05:08:36.923-07:00Luna MíaThis is the translation of a traditional tamil poem "Nila nila odi vaa....".
It is sung to kids while giving them food.It is believed that the moon's (nila is a tamil word meaning "The Moon") beauty will distract the child which will make them swallow the food.Anyway that is not the case with my kid!

OK here is my spanish poem.

The horns of the adorned bulls are made wet before the event and the animal is rubbed down with oil making it more difficult to hold onto. The bulls are drugged with steroids and are sometimes made to drink alcohol in order to enrage them preparing for the event. The villagers completely unarmed try to tame the bull by controlling its horns. The villagers will cover and hold the bull’s hump and run along with the animal.

The animal in turn will attempt to jump and get away from them. Sometimes the animals try to pierce the people with their horns. The prize (bundles containing money ) is tied to the horns of the bull and the winner is the one who manages to wrest the bundle from them.

In this sport the bull is not killed.People gather in thousands to watch this spectacular event.Only men take part in this game.
Sometimes more than one bull is let loose at the same time ,some will fall down from the ferocious animal violently and may even bleed. The villagers take this game as a display of their masculine strength.Betting is also common in this game.

This event is held as a thanks giving ceremony for the animals that have helped in farming all around the year.
This bull fighting is an ancient south indian tradition which is considered to be a game testing the braveness of men.
The game was used by women to choose their husbands, the winners were chosen as grooms.

How do people greet in india?

When people meet in India they usually fold their hands together and say "Namaste".
Its is a gesture especially used to greet elders. When you fold your hands ,touch your palms and take the clasped hands close to your heart it resembles the position of hands while performing prayers.

Namaste symbolises the obedience one has for the other.
Namaste is also said as "Namaskar" which comes from the Sanskrit language , the literal meaning being "I bow to you".
You can find this gesture in many traditional dance forms of India,in various yoga postures and religious rituals.

Namaste is the first word that a forgein tourist has to learn and understand before visting India as it can even grab the attention of a passerby who will respond to it with equal respect.

This tradition is slowly fading away and nowadays when we meet we say "Hai" or "Hello", we use Namaste only when we have to greet elders or in some places most of the youngsters generally speak out the word Namaste without folding their hands.
